Financial planning is a series of connected decisions. These are the ones I work through most often with clients across Melbourne and Australia.
More than a mathematical question. I run the numbers and the tax position, then weigh them against how each path would feel over the next ten years — and make the call together.
I build a clear picture of where the money goes and what your life genuinely costs, so the amount you can comfortably spend on travel, time off or simply living better becomes a number rather than a guess.
I model it rather than guess it: what you've built, what you'll need, and what you want the next stage to include. Then I show you what different dates — and different working patterns — would really mean.
Dropping a day, stepping back from a role, or changing direction entirely. I work out what each option costs, what it would free up, and how long you could sustain it.
For many Australians super is the largest asset they'll ever hold, and the least examined. I make sure yours is structured, invested and contributed to in a way that matches your plans. Sometimes that includes an SMSF, and often a simpler structure serves you better.
This stage often calls for a different portfolio to the one that got you here. I look at how much risk you're taking, how much you need to take, and whether the right structure sits behind it so you keep more of what you've built.
Cover exists so the plan survives the unexpected — your income, your family, your commitments. Just as valuable at this stage: releasing the premiums on cover you've already outgrown.
Estate and family wealth decisions are really about people. I work alongside your solicitor on what to pass on and when, and how much to keep for the life you still want to live.
Sometimes the answer is that you're in good shape and can relax. Sometimes there's a change worth making. Either way you'll know, and knowing is usually the thing people came for.
Behind these decisions sits the full work of a financial planning practice. I prefer to start the conversation with the decision in front of you.
Clarus Private Wealth provides personal financial advice to clients in Melbourne and across Australia. Every strategy is tailored, and most plans draw on several of the areas below.
Modelling when you could retire, how much you will need, and how to turn superannuation and investments into a reliable retirement income.
Contribution strategies, salary sacrifice and concessional caps, consolidation, investment selection within super, and whether an SMSF genuinely suits you.
Building a diversified investment portfolio matched to your goals, timeframe and risk tolerance, held in the right ownership structure for tax efficiency.
Understanding your household cashflow, then deciding between extra mortgage repayments, offset accounts, salary sacrifice and investing surplus income.
Life, total and permanent disability, trauma and income protection cover — reviewed so it protects the plan without paying for cover you have outgrown.
Working with your solicitor on wills, powers of attorney, superannuation death benefit nominations and how family wealth passes to the next generation.
Considering ownership, family trusts, companies and superannuation so more of what you build stays with you and your family.
