Ben Northwood

Founder and Financial Adviser

Helping clients make confident financial decisions for 18 years.

Ben, financial adviser at Clarus Private Wealth

Eighteen years of the same belief.

I've always enjoyed helping people.

Financial advice gave me a way to combine that with something else I enjoy: solving problems, working with numbers and having meaningful conversations with people from all walks of life.

After eighteen years in advice, that has never really changed.

What has changed are the conversations.

The people I work with aren't usually looking for another investment product. They already know they could be doing more, they just aren't always sure what that looks like.

They're weighing up decisions. Considering opportunities. Trying to work out how money can help create the life they want.

That's where I can help.

My role is to understand what's important to you, where you'd like life to head next and what stands in the way.

Then we work through it together.

Why I started Clarus

After nearly two decades in financial advice, I had a clear idea of the experience I wanted clients to have.

I wanted advice to feel personal. I wanted relationships to come first. And I wanted clients to know they could pick up the phone whenever something significant happened in their lives and have someone they trust to talk it through with.

That's why I started Clarus Private Wealth.

Clarus was built around the belief that great advice is about more than strategies and recommendations. It is about helping people make important decisions with confidence, and knowing they have someone in their corner when they need it.

“Relationships are gold.”

Advice is a relationship business

Technology has made financial advice more efficient, and that is a good thing. For me, the purpose of that efficiency is not to serve thousands more people. It is to spend more time having better conversations with the people I already help.

The clients I enjoy working with most value the conversation as much as the advice itself. We talk about money, but we also talk about family, work, opportunities, challenges and the things that matter most to them.

Over time, those conversations create something valuable: trust.

I want clients to feel comfortable reaching out whenever they need guidance, whether it is a major financial decision or simply a question they want to talk through.

“Some of the most valuable conversations we have aren't about money at all.”

A little more about me

What I enjoy most about advice
Helping people navigate important decisions, and seeing the confidence that comes from having a clear plan.
What keeps me interested after eighteen years
The people, the conversations and the constantly changing landscape.
What I've learned
Life rarely follows a straight line, and the best financial plans leave room for that.
Based in Melbourne
Working with clients across Australia.
Outside of work
Family, watching AFL and getting out into nature.

Bayside Melbourne is home.

I'm raising a young family in the bayside suburbs, and most weekends you'll find me watching sport, staying active, or standing over a BBQ once the weather warms up. I like a long black and a good conversation — I've had plenty of both with people from every kind of background, and it's shaped how I listen as much as how I advise.

If you're wondering what's possible, let's talk.

The people I help have often reached a point where they know they could be doing more, they just aren't certain what that looks like. That's where a conversation can help.
